Semiconductor Manufacturing International (Shanghai) Corporation (SMIC) announced today that it has been certified with the ISO14001 standard by BSI (British Standard Institute). ISO 14001 certificate number EMS 69136 was officially registered on August 16, 2002.
ISO 14001 is a voluntary international standard that establishes requirements for an environmental management system (EMS). To achieve this certification, SMIC analyzed 2,400 elements in its products, activities and services related to the environment, and involved all suppliers and contractors in its environmental management efforts. Such efforts included energy, resource and material conservation research, and the innovation of new techniques for recycling and reuse. SMIC also provides regular training to enhance employees' knowledge and awareness.

In addition to the responsible and efficient use of energy and materials, the ISO14001 standards will ensure our employees' welfare and bring about cost savings for the company," said Marco Mora, Vice President and Environmental Management Representative for SMIC.
