Semiconductor Manufacturing International (Shanghai) Corporation (SMIC), a pure-play semiconductor foundry located in China, announced today that it is ready to launch its fully qualified 0.18-micron CMOS logic technology, which is the first such offering in China. SMIC's internal R&D team has developed this foundry compatible 0.18-micron Logic process technology, based upon SMIC's licensed technologies from technology partners. This 0.18-micron logic technology provides customers with the benefit of a small cell-sized embedded SRAM, and is meant to be a subset of a 0.18-micron technology family, which includes EEPROM and Mixed Signal/RF for SOC applications. SMIC has already implemented this 0.18-micron logic technology into volume production, and has achieved competitive levels of defect density and process cycle time.
With VeriSilicon's 0.18-micron design platform, SMIC is able to provide customers comprehensive design support, including memory compilers for single port and dual port SRAM, standard and I/O cell libraries. In addition, SMIC's in-house design support group offers a variety of digital and mixed signal IPs. SMIC's multi-wafer project service further allows customers to test prototypes and advanced designs at minimal risk and cost.
"We are very proud to be the first foundry in China to produce in volume the 0.18-micron logic technology. The qualification of SMIC's 0.18-micron technology, to JEDEC standards, is not only a great success and milestone for SMIC, but for the IC industry as a whole in China," said Dr. I.C. Chen (陈一浸), Marketing and Sales Fellow at SMIC. "With our expertise, alliances and technology partnerships, SMIC is becoming a world-class foundry in China, providing our customers with a full spectrum of silicon foundry services and world-class quality and reliability."
