SMIC and Renji Hospital holds The Children's Day Liver Transplant charity event

 

SHANGHAI, May 29, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation ("SMIC"; NYSE: SMI; SEHK: 981), China's largest and most advanced semiconductor foundry, announced the donation of an additional 2 million yuan (including staff donations) to the Soong Ching Ling Foundation to help fund the SMIC Liver Transplant Program for Children. The announcement was made during The Children's Day Liver Transplant charity event, which was co-organized with Renji Hospital. The donation will go towards disadvantaged children at Renji Hospital in need of liver transplants. At present, SMIC has already donated a grand total of 4 million yuan towards the project.

 

Since the launch of SMIC Liver Transplant Program for Children last April, the fund has been put towards helping disadvantaged children needing liver transplants at Renji Hospital, Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine. After a year into the scheme, it has already helped and treated 25 disadvantaged children from all over the country, giving them a second chance at life. Before this year's Children's Day, the rehabilitated children and their family from all parts of China came to attend the charity event at SMIC Private School to celebrate Children's Day with SMIC employees and doctors from Renji hospital. Wenyi Zhang, chairman of SMIC; Dr. Tzu-Yin Chiu, chief executive officer and executive director of SMIC; Weiping Li, director of Renji Hospital; Jiuhong Tang, Head of China Soong Ching Ling Foundation; Qiang Ma, vice president of Shanghai Red Cross and Jingbo Zhou, deputy director of the Shanghai Civil Affair Bureau came to attend the evening party. During the party, the rehabilitated children from the SMIC Liver Transplant Program for Children, SMIC employees, SMIC Private School Students and JCET held a wonderful performance.

 

Dr. Tzu-Yin Chiu, Chief Executive Officer of SMIC presented a 2 million yuan cheque to the Soong Ching Ling Foundation. "SMIC Liver Transplant Program for Children is one of SMIC's most important projects in fulfilling our corporate social responsibility, and will be a long term ongoing project. It is incredibly gratifying, when we see these children get a new chance at life and help families regain their happiness. In the meantime we hope our work can lay down the foundations of bringing more people together to create a more harmonious and compassionate community," said Dr. Tzu-Yin Chiu.
